🌱 From Vine to Glass — Episode 2: Budburst

After months of winter dormancy, the vineyard starts waking up.

As temperatures rise, the buds begin to swell before bursting open to reveal the vine's first delicate shoots and leaves.

It's the official start of a new growing season, but also one of the vine's most vulnerable moments. A sudden spring frost can damage that fresh new growth and potentially affect the crop to come.

Next up: just how quickly those tiny shoots start growing. 👀🌿

You’re probably not bad at wine. You’ve just been taught to think there’s a right answer...

You take a sip and someone says they can taste blackcurrant, cedar, tobacco and graphite…

Meanwhile, you’re thinking: it tastes like wine.
And suddenly you assume they’re better at wine than you are.

But tasting wine isn’t about guessing the “correct” answer.

Your brain is trying to connect aromas and flavours with things you’ve smelled and tasted before, and everyone’s bank of memories is different.

Someone might say lemon where you taste grapefruit.
Someone might say blackberry where you taste blackcurrant.

That doesn’t mean one of you is wrong.
The skill isn’t having the right answer.
It’s learning to notice what’s in your glass.

And the more wines you try, the more connections you start to make.

So next time someone asks what you can taste, don’t worry about what you’re supposed to say.

Isn't that what it's all about? Wine (vino, as they say in Spain), the love of wine and its artistry. Currently enjoying many local wines at a fun wine bar in Valencia, getting to try some grape varieties we don't often see in the UK as a single variety option such as Godello and Bobal. These are often blended into some of your known favourite Rosé's. Valencia has some outstanding wines and winemaking techniques not often in the supermarket. Keep a look out for them in wine shops as some hidden gems!

We served this wonderful wine at a recent event in one of @lakes_byyoo beautiful properties.

What if art could help you understand wine? 🍷🎨

Before wine became my career, art was one of my biggest passions. And still is!

As I've been building The Cellar Community, I realised I didn't have to leave that part of me behind. I could use it as my 'super power'

So I've started creating my own wine maps, illustrations and (coming very soon...) a collection of grape characters.

Ive designed them to make wine easier to understand, easier to remember, and a lot more fun to explore. They're another way of making wine less intimidating and more approachable.

If a hand-drawn map helps a region finally make sense, or a grape character helps you understand or remember a variety, then I've done exactly what I set out to do.

This is just the beginning, and I can't wait to share more with you. 🍷
